Alternatives to Store Bought Face Masks

Sometimes your face just needs a little extra care. With all the advancements of facial care it’s simple to go down the chemical peels route, or just run to the store and grab a face mask to do at home. However, one day I had let a friend borrow my car and so I couldn’t make a trip out to the store. So instead, I turned to the internet and my cupboards to see if there was a simple mask I could make with things I had around the house. As I was glancing through some recipes I came across a simple facial mask that used strawberries, which I had just purchased the day before at the grocery store, so I decided to give it a try.
Strawberries and Cream Facial Mask
You will need:
- 4-5 very ripe medium strawberries
- 2 Tsp. heavy cream
- 1 Tsp. honey
Puree the strawberries, cream, and honey in a blender. Apply to face, leave on for 10 minutes, and then rinse off the puree with cool water or a wash cloth.
I was so happy with how simple this recipe was and how great my face felt, that I spent the next couple of days trying a couple other recipes. I was really pleased with the simplicity and results of the following two recipes.
Peachy Mask
You will need:
- 1 soft peach, mashed with a fork
- 1 Tbs. honey
- Small amount of oatmeal
Mix all the ingredients together. Add just enough oatmeal to the other two ingredients to make enough to apply a layer to your face. Clean your face to open your pores, apply the peach mixture, and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Wash the mixture off your face with warm water and pat dry.
Orange Yogurt Mask
You will need:
- 1 Tsp. plain yogurt
- The juice of 1/4 of an orange
Mix the two ingredients, and use your fingers to smooth the mixture on your face. Leave for five minutes and then rinse. I found this mask to have a cooling sensation and felt great about the Vitamin C I was putting on my face.
So the next time you can’t make it to the store or you just want to try something new, consider a homemade facial mask.
