A Bit about Chin Implants

Chin augmentation or chin implant is a cosmetic procedure that is done to help enhance the overall look and forward projection of the lower face. It is recommended that only adults consider doing this procedure since as you grow older the face bones will change and shift.

Chin implants are made from synthetic materials such as silicone. It is usually attached to the bone with titanium screws or suture. There are many variations that are available in this kind of chin implants that would help change the thickness in order to enhance the external look or appearance of the chin.

The best chin implant style for a patient can be determined with the help of a photographic or visual analysis of the chin followed by computer imaging of the different styles of implants that can be done to best suit the change that you would like to see. The size of the chin implant is best determined by taking measurements on a photograph that is 1:1 or on a lateral cephalometric x-ray and that is taken with a side view.
